In one of the previous post, we have seen what is vSphere Distributed Switch.
In this article we will discuss about exporting, importing, and restoring Distributed Switch configurations using the vSphere Web Client.
Export Distributed Switch Configuration
Launch the vSphere Client(HTML5) and Navigate to Home > Networking
2. Right Click on the VDS that you would like to backup and select Settings -> Export Configuration
3. You can either select to backup Distributed switch and all port groups or just the Distributed Switch. Specify a Description (optional) then hit OK
4. Save the file at desired location.
You can use this exported configuration file to either create a copy of the exported distributed switch or to overwrite settings on an existing distributed switch. Use the import option to create a distributed switch from an exported configuration file.
Import Distributed Switch Configuration
5. To import a VDS configuration, right click on the virtual datacenter and click Distributed Switch > Import Distributed Switch.
6. Browse to the location of your saved configuration file.
Select the Preserve original distributed switch and port group identifiers option and click NEXT.
7. Review your settings selections and click on FINISH.
Restore Distributed Switch Configuration
You can use the restore option to reset the configuration of an existing distributed switch to the settings in the configuration file. Restoring a distributed switch changes the settings on the selected switch back to the settings saved in the configuration file.
8. To Restore a VDS configuration, right click on the VDS, select Settings > Restore Configuration.
9. Browse to your Backup file, select either Restore distributed switch and all port groups or just Restore distributed switch only and click Next then Finish
10. Review your settings and click on FINISH.
I hope you find this post informational.
